Developed by Advan: Ben Hu’s A90 Supra

Ben Hu’s Toyota A90 Supra is a strong example of what can be achieved when a capable platform is developed with a clear purpose.

Built for competitive circuit use, the Supra has evolved from an already impressive performance car into a serious time-attack package. Rather than focusing solely on power, the build has been developed around balance, consistency and reliability—areas that are essential when chasing lap times.

Advan Performance has played an ongoing role in the car’s development, providing custom tuning, mechanical preparation, maintenance and pre-event inspections to ensure the Supra performs consistently both on the dyno and at the circuit.

Developing the B58 Package

At the centre of the build is BMW’s turbocharged B58 inline-six, paired with a Turbosmart 6870 turbocharger and controlled through ProTuningFreaks’ Rev2 tuning platform.

For a circuit-focused car, maximum power is only one part of the equation. Torque delivery must be progressive, throttle response must remain predictable, and the engine must perform consistently across complete track sessions.

Advan’s calibration has been developed around the vehicle’s specific hardware, tyre package and intended use. The result is usable power delivery that allows Ben to carry speed and apply throttle confidently without unnecessarily overwhelming the rear tyres.

As the vehicle has evolved, the calibration has continued to be refined alongside changes to the overall setup.

Prepared for the Circuit

The Supra regularly returns to Advan Performance for servicing, inspections and preparation before major events.

Track use places significantly more stress on a vehicle than normal road driving. Cooling systems, fluids, suspension components, driveline hardware and braking systems must all be checked carefully before the car is pushed at competition pace.

This ongoing preparation is an important part of the Supra’s performance. A fast lap means very little if the vehicle cannot maintain that performance reliably throughout an event.

Proven Through Competition

The Supra’s progress is reflected in its results.

At Aus Time Attack, Ben improved from a 1:29.826 at Winton Motor Raceway in 2024 to a 1:28.444 in 2025.

In 2026, the Supra recorded a 1:26.85, securing the Clubsprint 2WD victory and demonstrating the progress made through continued testing and development.

The car has also competed at World Time Attack Challenge at Sydney Motorsport Park, further proving the package under demanding competition conditions.

These results have not come from one major change. They are the outcome of repeated testing, careful preparation and incremental improvements across the engine, chassis, aerodynamics and driver setup.

Developed in the Workshop, Proven on Track

Ben’s A90 Supra represents Advan Performance’s approach to vehicle development.

The objective is not simply to produce the largest possible dyno number. The goal is to create a car that delivers its performance smoothly, consistently and reliably in the environment it was built for.

Through custom tuning, ongoing servicing and event preparation, Advan has helped turn Ben’s Supra into a proven time-attack competitor capable of producing increasingly faster results.

Built in the workshop. Refined through testing. Proven against the clock.
